ATOMSTACK is one of the brands to watch in the field of laser engraving. The brand is capitalizing on its A5 series with the launch of the A5 M40. It targets the general public in terms of price and must make concessions. It is in direct competition with SCULPFUN rather than ORTUR. The leader is more expensive but for good reasons.

Why should I buy a laser engraver?

Just a few years ago, we would never have been able to write a post here about a laser engraver. The equipment was very large and expensive. Only companies would have been able to buy such a device. However, we live in a time where the technology is also available to do-it-yourselfers and hobbyists. But why should I buy a laser engraver?

With a laser engraver, you can engrave wood, leather, acrylic, felt and some other fabrics. Thin wood, acrylic or cardboard can also be cut. It depends a little on the power of the laser. For custom woodwork and gifts than the ideal device.

Simple lasers such as the Atomstack A5 M40 are so-called diode lasers. CO2 lasers are somewhat more powerful. These cost considerably more and are also more complicated to set up. In addition, they need much more space in your workshop. So we decided to use a more compact diode laser. With it, we can produce great individual woodwork.

Why the Atomstack A5 M40?

Over some contributions in forums and Youtube videos we have dealt more closely with the topic “laser engraving”. Often you end up with one of the three brands: Atomstack, Neje and Ortur. We then looked at what models are available from the respective manufacturers and what they offer.

The A5 M40 and Ortur Laser Master 2 Pro models ended up on the shortlist. Both promise sufficient performance. Don’t be confused by the specifications like 40W laser or 20W laser. The laser module has an optical power of 5W to 5.5W in both cases.

The Ortur LM2 Pro is technically a bit more advanced. There is an emergency stop switch, a fire sensor and a tilt sensor. The latter stops the laser process should the device fall off the table.

However, the Atomstack A5 M40 also has very good reviews and is especially a bit cheaper. Therefore, we opted for the Atomstack. A few weeks ago, the ATOMSTACK X20 Pro was even introduced. This is supposed to be the new “Flagship model”. However, it costs more than 1000 USD.
